Born into a creative Danish family, Thomas initially trained photography with his mother Marianne Grøndahl. In the early 1980's he embarked upon a career as a fashion photographer, soon getting clients like Converse, amongst others. Later he got involved with interior photography, as well as assignments for numerous Danish companies, including high profile annual reports.

Two things are prominent in the works of Thomas. An ability to get close to his subject, depicting it's character in an outright manner. The other is a lifelong passion to a painterly approach, inspired by the romantic work of a painter like Turner, as well as the Abstract Expressionists
